Seriously, I love this school for one thing. Yesterday, I forgot my wallet in the main eating area for nearly 2 hours, and when I came back to look for it, it was still on the table. I could not have handled going through everything I would have had to in order to get everything back/cancelled/whatever.

In conclusion, here's a Dalek with a bowtie.

You've probably heard about the earthquake/tsunami stuff going on in Japan (the Internet sure does spread that kind of news quickly). All day my twitter stream has been 90% about Japan. The damage is insane. I'm glad my midterm today was so easy, because half my mind was still focused on Japan.

A little while ago, I donated to ShelterBox as a part of Maureen Johnson's #lastlittleshelterbox campaign. She's started another campaign that you can find more about here. There are a lot of good organisations around that are worth looking at as well.

I just hope everything doesn't turn out totally terrible, and if you know anyone in Japan, I hope they're alright.

ETA: And this is why Twitter beats Facebook. Twitter is awash with concern and ways to help, Facebook is the usual self-centered junk. LJ is nicely in between.

Huh. I guess my week off is technically over. :( And I had to wear pants every day! Normally during a week off, and what I had hoped for this week was to just chill out, watch TV, think about doing my readings and catching up in class, and basically do nothing. But I worked Monday, and Tuesday I went to Chapters to check for DWM, Wednesday was my sister's birthday, and she stayed and went home Thursday, and I work today and tomorrow. Plus, all week there's been a guy in our apartment putting wood floor in the entryway. It doesn't help that all semester, I've actually been hanging out with people (almost every day, really). While it's been fun, I just need a week to hermit up in my room and not speak for a couple of days. And I didn't get that. I shouldn't be too worried, socialising isn't a terrible thing, it's just that for the past two years (as long as I've been in university), near the middle/end of the year, I get some sort of breakdown. Last year was worse than the year before, and I'm scared that trend will continue. Idk, I'll just veg out on Sunday and hope it's enough.

Nicholas Courtney passed away today. Sadfaces around the world. RIP Brig. :(

Arrgh! Today kinda really sucked. I couldn't find my bus pass for a while last night, but found it just before giving up, then this morning, I couldn't find my iPod headphones. Worst of all, this afternoon, I for realsies lost my bus pass, and with it was my meal plan card (with over $200 still loaded on it), and a crapton of coupons. Added to that, I have an English essay due on Tuesday that I haven't started, NaNo's almost here, and all the social interaction that goes with it, and my Classics class has moved past the Iliad and the Odyssey(the stuff I know) into Roman epics, which means I have to start pretending to keep up.

I just want this over with. :(
for a lighter view... (or at least, more pop cultury) )

I haven't updated in a while, and I'm going to try and do it more now that school's in and I have more time to be bored, but this is something the internet must know!
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME )

The crazy thing about this is, we were just talking earlier about how none of us are serious Bieber fans, or Bieber fans of any sort really, but we still all had mild fangirl reactions to him. It's just that it's rare enough that celebrities come through the area, even for concerts and stuff, that to see someone, anyone!, was insane. Especially to see them at the damn cheap theatre!

First off, apologies for sucking at the internet. Life sucks. But it's summer now (technically. For me anyway. Who really cares if it snowed during my summer break. Summer's still summer, right?), so I shall do my best to post more and comment and be ~involved~ and social and whatnot. So someone punch me if I slack off.

My sister had writing camp this week, and today she mentioned how one of the authors there was saying how everyone has a story, or something to say, and that it was a great message and total truefax. But then, the next author came up and was all "Yeah, I disagree with her. You don't need a story to tell. I once wrote a poem, I don't know what it means now, and I didn't know what it meant then." I chose to play Guess-the-annoying-idiotic-author game. "R.P. MacIntyre?" (And yes, I had to google how to spell that.) We went on to have a nice rant about what an egotistical douche he is. He talked at our school when I was in grade 12, and was also at writing camp that year. I hate him with a passion. He doesn't seem to write because he wants to, or even because he likes to, but just because he somehow gets a paycheck. And that just rubs me the wrong way. And he's just creepy.

Oh, and hello to new friends!!

Marie suggested we go on an adventure today after supper. So we went to Wal-Mart (It's new. And big. Seriously. Mythbusters-experiment big. McD's and a Tim's big. There's a freaking salon). So we went there, looked around for a bit. I got a picture frame-thing. It's got two places for heads and it says "love". Marie made me get it cause she knocks on my door in the fashion of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. (*knockknockknock* Darcy! *knockknockknock* Darcy! *knockknockknock* Darcy!) She suggested I start dating a guy named Leonard (any guy named Leonard). So I'm going to put a picture of me and Leonard on there and put it on my door. I also got Mini Eggs cause Matt Smith just increased the awesome of them (although not enough for me to get over the fact that they're now sold all year round. I mean, seriously, WTF?), and they were only a dollar.

Then we got free coffee from McDonalds, and Marie put Mini Eggs in hers, and said it was good, so we plan on making a pot of Mini Egg filled coffee during finals. It'll be AWESOME.

Then we spent a couple of hours following stalking various vehicles all over the city. We only lost track of a couple of them, and a few stopped and we had to find another one. It was serious good times.

Oh! And:

And thanks to the internet at large, some places and people in particular, for providing a distraction or offering help when I broke down on Thurs. My head's still a bit messed up, but I'm getting a better handle on it, and I think I'll be OK.

In response to the massive earthquake in Haiti, [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti was created as a fandom auction, with proceeds going to help recover. I signed up offering a fic here, but definitely have a look at the other posts to see if there's anything you'd like!

Charity works have always been a part of fandom for me. My first fandom was Harry Potter, and Wizard Rock has always been very charitable. Also, it was way easier to convince my parents to drop $60 on a bunch of CDs when I could say it was going to help the situation in Darfur. Fandom is such a community thing, and the community banding together to help others is an amazing thing to be a part of. Even though I can't financially contribute, spreading awareness and encouraging others is good enough.
